Language Development: Age One (04:52)
At about one year of age many babies speak their first words and they understand more words than they can speak. Reading aloud to children at this age is essential for language development.

Toddlers begin to make sentences but do not understand all the words they can say; discussions while reading will improve their comprehension. Drawing at this age helps develop writing skills.
