Who is a Gifted Child? (04:42)
The definition of "giftedness" has changed over the years. The concept of giftedness is no longer limited to academic achievement, but has broadened to include the arts, leadership, and social skills, to name a few. In this segment, gifted children discuss their gifts.

Gifted Children in School (03:39)

A gifted classroom teacher reflects on the gifted child's problem-solving abilities. Their questions and curiosity, however, can overwhelm some teachers. Gifted children share their thoughts about education and their favorite classes.

Self-Contained and Integrated Classrooms (03:32)

One approach to educating gifted children to place them all in a self-contained gifted classroom. Some see this configuration as elitist in addition to issues of segregation. Another approach is to differentiate the curriculum in an integrated classroom.

Challenges Faced by Gifted Children (05:30)

Gifted children talk about their special needs and problems. If gifted children are not acknowledged early on, they may begin a pattern of under-achieving. Some children pressure themselves to be perfect, and others do not want to stand out from the rest of the students.

Parental Guidance for Gifted Children (05:24)

Parents of gifted children may need to supplement their children's education, or simply to be supportive and nurturing of the child's curiosity and intellect. Most importantly, parents and teachers of gifted children should appreciate them and encourage the expression of their uniqueness.
