Parents, friends, sex education classes, the media-all of them shape our perceptions of reproduction and physical intimacy. Starting at the beginning, then, this program focuses on developmental issues in human sexuality. Its four interview segments question children on what they know about love and sex; adolescents on what they know about sex and what constitutes good sex education; adults on what they believe children should know about sexuality; and a persevering couple on their difficulties in achieving pregnancy and reaching full term. Contains clinically explicit language.

Children and Gender Issues (03:35)
Children discuss gender issues such as how they know what sex they are, who they would rather play with, and what boys and girls are like.

Children and Human Reproduction (03:31)
Children answer the questions about how babies are made with varying levels of knowledge and imagination. Younger children seem to have no concept of sexual intercourse, though older children have relatively mature responses to these issues.

Teens on Sex and Sexual Knowledge (03:09)
Teens respond to questions about sex and dissemination of sexual information. Teens reveal open-mindedness and caution about sexual activity.

Media, Sex, and Sex Education (03:58)
Sexual information comes to teens from a variety of sources such as family and church. For teens, media is both a source of sexual information and a misrepresentation of the meaning of sexual relationships.

Sex Education of Parent Generation (04:22)
Parents of teenagers discuss the formal and informal ways they learned about sex when they were growing up. Parents who grew up with little sex education believe that their children know much more about sex than they did as teens.

Parents as Sex Educators (04:01)
Quality relationships between teens and parents create an environment of openness where teens can talk about all aspects of sex and sexual relationships. Sexual ignorance can be dangerous and unhealthy for teens.

Infertility and Pregnancy (03:59)
A married couple struggles for years to get pregnant and finally seeks help from a fertility doctor. After three unsuccessful attempts, the fourth in vitro fertilization was successful.

In Vitro Fertilization (05:26)
Having carefully screened donor characteristics and personality traits, a married couple chooses an egg donor for their in vitro process. Further into the pregnancy than they had ever gotten before, the couple feels excited about the impending birth.
